December 4 – 11, 2022
National Offering Goal: $196 million
The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering® is an annual offering collected by Southern Baptists to support international missions. The offering was officially named in 1918 by Woman’s Missionary Union in honor of the missionary to China who urged churches to start it and give sacrificially.
This offering is unique from other mission offerings in that 100% of gifts provide for missionaries all over the world. It is a valuable part of Southern Baptists’ 175-year history of reaching the nations with the gospel and vital to reaching the vision of a multitude from every language, people, tribe and nation knowing and worshiping our Lord Jesus Christ (Revelation 7:9).
The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering® is a registered trademark of Woman’s Missionary Union.
Week of Prayer
The Week of Prayer is annually observed by SBC churches to pray for missionaries, their ministries and their families. Prayer is the fuel for spiritually sustaining missionaries in places where the gospel is greatly needed, but often opposed.
The official dates are the last Sunday in November through the first Sunday in December. Your church can choose this date or another time during the Christmas season to participate.
In addition to downloading these items, if your church needs additional prayer guides or envelopes, please contact us at the Helpdesk at helpdesk@brnunited.org.
Please note: This Help Desk is for the churches of the Baptist Resource Network of Pennsylvania/South Jersey. Churches outside this network can request materials from their state convention or click here to download them directly from the International Mission Board.
Day One
God’s Purpose to Conquer Lostness
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth and everything in them. And it was good, until it wasn’t. Since those fateful moments in the garden, creation has suffered the consequences of sin while humanity has perished, living a hope-deprived life far from God. But God, in his grace, made redemption possible through Jesus Christ. And through His gospel we declare that the lost are found, dead are brought to life and hope is renewed.
Pray for Southern Baptists to be faithful to support our missionaries by praying, giving, going and sending.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to empower each of IMB’s 3500+ missionaries to faithfully share the gospel with unreached people.
Day Two
God’s Reach Through Healthcare
Word spread quickly in this North African town. A medical clinic arrived, and anyone is welcome. Setting up a local church gave some people pause, but free healthcare is hard to turn down.
Pray for medical missionaries around the world who give their time and skills to serve others.
Pray that God would use the conversations that happen in medical settings to not only bring physical healing, but also spiritual rebirth.
Day Three
God’s Ministry Through Students
Across the 2,000 inhabited islands of more than 7,600 that make up the Philippines, is a vast spiritual darkness. People are not only trapped by the islands, but trapped in their sin – separated from God because many have not yet heard the life-saving gospel.
Pray for the Lord to help Southern Baptists see the long-term value of their short-term commitment to serve overseas.
Pray for more churches in the US to partner with IMB missionaries who live in hard to reach places.
Day Four
God’s Healing Among Refugees
Olga wanted to go to church for years, but her husband forbade it. He didn’t believe in God and didn’t want his family dabbling in a faith he understood to be false.
Pray for God’s healing among refugees affected by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Pray for more believers to meet the physical needs of Ukrainian refugees and show the love of Christ through their generosity.
Day Five
God’s Influence in Global Cities
Everyone in the small church wondered if the baptism was ever going to happen. In this central Asian city visited by thousands of tourists each year, the delays kept stacking up.
Pray for God to give IMB missionaries and local believers in global cities wisdom and discernment as they engage with others.
Pray for the faithfulness of believers to bring the gospel to the lost in cities around us.
Day Six
God’s Impact Among the Diaspora
Bibles lay open amid the food wrappers on the fast-food restaurant table. The two men sat quietly discussing a key concept in Christianity – Jesus rising from the dead.
Pray for new believers to continue to learn more about the Lord and be equipped to share with others.
Pray for American churches to share the gospel with the unreached people groups living in their communities.
Day Seven
God’s Work Through Global Missionary Partners
On another sunny day in Northern Uganda, Hector steps into the river and turns to extend his hand to Oketa Robert, a new believer. Oketa Robert walks into the water, ready to take the next step of faith and be baptized. He is one of 34 believers baptized on this day in early spring. Each new follower of Jesus is a refugee from the Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement.
Pray for the ministries of our global missionary partners.
Pray for more believers around the world to serve in international missions.
Day Eight
God’s Redemption Through Discipleship
The big outreach event was almost here. Plans had been made and prayer supporters engaged. South Asian believer Abel was leading the efforts for a widespread gospel outreach to a largely unreached district. But COVID-19 disrupted the plans. Transportation to the region shut down and the event had to be cancelled.
2022 Lottie Moon offering and Week of Prayer resources available from IMB
By IMB Staff
“Addressing lostness as the world’s greatest problem requires the world’s greatest resources,” IMB President Paul Chitwood recently told Southern Baptists. For this reason, we invite all Southern Baptists to participate with us in the 2022 Lottie Moon Christmas Offering® and Week of Prayer for International Missions.
Southern Baptists send IMB missionaries to be steadfastly present among those who have never heard the gospel – people in cities, people in hard-to-reach places and people who are dispersed around the world.
But, this missionary presence is only possible through your fervent prayers and faithful gifts.
By praying for your missionaries and those who have yet to hear and believe the gospel, you and your church can help solve the world’s greatest problem – lostness. Pray with us during the Week of Prayer, Dec. 4-11.
By giving to the Lottie Moon offering, you make it possible for IMB missionary presence to cultivate gospel access, gospel belief and gospel multiplication. We invite you to support the work of your missionaries not just during this Christmas season but 365 days a year.
This year’s Week of Prayer and Lottie Moon offering downloadable resources are available now on the IMB’s website. In addition to stories, full-color photos and videos, we are offering a global impact guide, social media graphics, presentation graphics, kids’ resources, goal posters and a bulletin insert.
Resources are also available in Spanish, Korean and Chinese. These resources are designed to invite you and your church — all ages — to actively participate in the task of praying for missionaries and to raise awareness of God’s work around the world. The stories and other materials will unite individuals and churches in meeting this year’s $196 million LMCO goal.
Through the LMCO, IMB President Paul Chitwood says, we can remain on task to address one problem that rises above every problem — lostness. There are 157,690 people dying daily without Christ and more than 3,000 people groups remain unengaged.
This work can only be accomplished through the cooperative work of Southern Baptists. Our convention exists for the purpose of praying, giving, going and sending, together.
“Together, we get to share the good news of Jesus with people and places where that news has never been heard. Together, we send, sustain and support missionaries to be steadfastly present around the globe,” Chitwood encourages. “We must reach the nations, together.”
