PEACH BOTTOM, Pa., (BRN) – On Saturday, April 8, Wrightsdale Baptist Church in Peach Bottom, Pennsylvania, hosted Eggsplosion 2023. Our ministry was pleased to have about 276 people in attendance after having to postpone the event due to inclement weather. The temperature was chilly, but the smiles on the faces of our volunteers were warm.
Wrightsdale was able to secure permission to use the property at Clermont Elementary School, allowing us to bring this event right into the heart of our community. Families were invited to bring their children to an Easter egg hunt complete with two bouncy castles, face painting, yard games, sand art, food and drinks – all free of charge. Church staff and volunteers spent the morning serving the community and sharing the love of Jesus with many who would typically not come into a church building.
Volunteers were able to share the complete gospel message with children and their parents using sand art. Each color was given a meaning and children were invited to pour each color of sand into a small plastic cross that they would take home with them as a visual reminder that God sent His Son ,Jesus, to die on the cross for their sin. In addition, families took home a card that explained the meaning of each color and gave scripture references.
Our event also had an “outreach team,” who simply sought to have conversations with our guests. Volunteers were encouraged to share the gospel using the Three Circles method of evangelism. While we are confident that the gospel was shared over 200 times, we are not yet aware of any decisions that were made that day.
However, we did receive feedback that some were contemplating everything that they had seen and heard. Everyone we spoke to was given a written, personal invitation to our Easter Sunday service the following day which resulted in about 370 people in attendance.
Families also received a written invitation for our upcoming Vacation Bible School, where we hope to continue planting and watering seeds of the gospel.
Finally, we allowed outside volunteers from a local high school art program to serve as face painters alongside a church member. This allowed us to work with them and share the gospel with them as well.
We have received extremely positive feedback from this event. Families were so thankful for a free family event. Our unchurched volunteers have reached out to ask some questions about salvation and plan to visit our student ministries in the future. Volunteers were excited to share the gospel and already looking forward to the return of “Eggsplosion” in 2024.
