Before we can make a difference, Jesus has to give us a new heart and make a difference in our lives. Once we have Jesus, we are difference makers.

That power is not in us, it’s in God who speaks through His Word and works through His people, people with the most obvious weaknesses, so that we will know it’s not us doing the work but Him.

In all of our weakness, we should look different than the world. We should be pursuing radical hospitality and love of neighbor, while not condoning sinful behavior or passively agreeing. We must speak both with clarity and love remembering that our identity is in Christ. He calls us to take the risk and follow Him, giving and going generously and wholeheartedly

We are to push past our comforts and run towards the poor and the troubles in our own lives and others’ lives. Jesus leads us in these times, giving us hopeful resolve and peace.

Despite our circumstances we are to worship God all the time, even when life is more than we can possibly handle in our own strength. The place of spiritual growth and power that forges a leader is on their knees in prayer in the night.

In Gregg Matte’s Difference Makers: How to Live a Life of Impact and Purpose, he explores the impact we can have as Christ-followers and the difference we can make when we rely on strength from the Lord, the one who made a difference in us first, rather than the strength we think we have on our own. We are called to more. We are called to be difference makers.
