WILKES-BARRE, Pa., (BRN) – Restored Church invested three days into a training for our youth group to engage the poverty in our city here in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

We then set aside a week to send the youth students, along with leadership, into the city for different serving and ministry opportunities. They were able to do street evangelism, serve another local BRN Church (Nebo) as they prepared for their upcoming Vacation Bible School (VBS) and run a VBS themselves in a local hotel that the county is using for housing young homeless families in poverty.

Discipleship Pastor Tim Morris pictured with one of the men who accepted Jesus as Savior during the week-long mission trip.

They did an amazing job, cooking and serving food to everyone, playing games, face painting and acting out stories from the gospels with the teachings of Jesus, such as the Good Samaritan and others.

Over the course of the week here is some of the fruit we were able to see happen:

  •  Shared the gospel clearly – 17 times
  • Prayed with people over things in their lives – 13 times
  • Pray for people after the conversation before moving onto the next one – 29
  • Gifted full Bible – 6
  • Gifted Gospel of John – 5
  • Gave out water bottle with invites to church – 80
  • Salvations – 3
  • Students Involved – 11
  • Leaders Involved – 7

We anticipate that we interacted with a total of 120 people and had at least 17 gospel conversations. We shared the gospel by giving out the Scriptures and engaging in gospel conversations, one-on-one as well as in group conversations, and through the VBS programming.
