PITTSBURGH (BRN) – Steel City Church in Pittsburgh successfully hosted a vibrant Community Easter Egg Hunt at our neighborhood K-8 school on Tuesday, March 19.
The event, which aimed to foster connections with families in our neighborhood, was a resounding success with over 150 community kids and parents actively participating in four egg hunts over two hours. Each egg hunt preceded a simple gospel presentation and an invitation to learn more. We also took the opportunity to gather information from each family, enabling us to extend personalized follow-up beyond the event.
This event was a testament to the power of the servant’s heart of our congregation. We were fortunate to have the support of several dozen of our young professionals, newly married couples and retirees, who played a pivotal role in making the event such a success.
From manning the registration tables, to assisting with egg collection, managing the prize tent and serving at the drinks tent, they interacted with families, adding a personal touch at each station. Their selfless service allowed our church members with children to focus on connecting with other families from the neighborhood and fostering those relationships.
The atmosphere was filled with joy and camaraderie, leading to several gospel and spiritual conversations and many personal invitations to the Easter Sunday service, effectively bridging the church and the community.
The grant from the Baptist Resource Network (BRN) allowed us to have several items that made this event possible AND are reusable next year, including signage, a large tent, many Easter eggs and more. With the BRN’s partnership, we were able to do the event to this scale and dream about the future ways we can leverage this event to help people experience, explore and embody the ways of Jesus!
