PHILADELPHIA (BRN) – It’s amazing to see all the students that God has brought to our table at Drexel University in Philadelphia.
We have Youngdai Won, a graduate international student from South Korea, who is part of the leadership team for our Graduate Christian Fellowship. Edison Eissen, an undergraduate sophomore from Nigeria, is a leader in student government. We also have three leaders from Cru, one of whom is a senior and the other two are sophomores. Another student is heading the Asian Baptist Student Koinonia.
Jane Elliot, a North American Mission Board (NAMB) missionary, and her husband, Jack. Jane is working on connecting international students at Drexel and in Philadelphia with local churches, while Jack works with Nehemiah Teams, an organization connected with the International Mission Board (IMB) that offers international mission opportunities to college students.
Two of our group members are alumni who remain an integral part of our Sunday Night Conversations. We’ve doubled in size and hope to keep growing. Being a presence in the heart of Drexel’s campus has given us incredible opportunities to share the gospel with the lost and live out our faith among students.
We not only share the gospel on our campus, but we also provide a safe space for everyone to learn about the love and truth of Christ. Moreover, we are developing leaders among students who represent a diversity of cultures and campus groups at Drexel. These students are impacting additional parts of our campus with the gospel in ways Brian and I never could. We are truly leading leaders.
A significant part of our community involves gathering around the table together and sharing meals.Every week, our students express their gratitude for these meals, which are generously provided by a Baptist Resource Network (BRN) Evangelism Grant. Providing meals for our students is a crucial aspect of our ministry for various reasons.
Firstly, we can offer healthy and nutritious meals to students who are already struggling with food insecurity. Secondly, by asking the students about the meals they would like to see from their homes of origin we demonstrate that we care about and value them, which allows us to show them the love of Jesus. Finally, sharing meals creates a bonding experience that helps students grow in community with one another and deepen their relationship with Brian and me.
All of these opportunities and partnerships allows us to spread the good news of Jesus across Drexel’s campus and the Philadelphia area. The gospel is shared at the meetings through the lessons Brian teaches, and then each of the students in those lessons also goes out and shares the gospel in the other communities that they are a part of on campus!
