WILLIAMSPORT, Pennsylvania — Hillview Baptist Church in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, is teaming up with nearby Camp Susque, a non-denominational Christian camp in Trout Run, to help provide learning environments for online students. The program gives working parents a safe place to send their children during online school days.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, Jackson Elementary, Hepburn-Lycoming School, and other schools in the area instituted a hybrid learning schedule this year, combining days at the school and days at home online. That put parents who can’t work remotely into a difficult position.
So Camp Susque, Hillview Baptist and other churches decided to host children in their buildings on the days children must work from home. Volunteers provide oversight and help with homework and as the children perform their school work on their computers.
Interim Pastor Chris McIntyre is happy his church is sharing in the effort.
He asks that people pray for the children and families of Jackson Elementary, as well as the collaborative effort with Camp Susque and Child Evangelism Fellowship. His earnest desire is that “we might see these kids and their families come to faith in Jesus,” he said.
McIntyre also said the church is looking for a commercial refrigerator to help accommodate these kids during their school days.
“We would appreciate any type of help towards that,” he said.
Those interested in helping with the refrigerator can contact Dwaine Wilson at (570) 560-8425.
