Hello, BRN Family! It’s good to be with you today!
As we focus this month on Black History, I want to give thanks to God for the work He has done in bringing unity among African American and Anglo pastors here in the Philadelphia area and beyond. Just three short years ago, several pastors started gathering to hear each other’s stories and to learn each other’s perspectives. It has been life-changing! Now these pastors are partnering together in the Gospel!
During this special month observance, I urge you to take the time to hear the stories of those around you, too. Don’t assume you know how the other person feels. Ask him or her. I also ask you to consider ways you can serve together within your communities to put the Gospel on high display for all to see.
Did you know this Sunday, February 7, has been designated as George Liele Church Planting, Evangelism, and Missions Sunday?
George Liele is honored as the first ordained African American Baptist preacher and missionary from America. He is also known for cultivating a significant ministry among slave populations in Jamaica where he established the first black Baptist efforts.
During his time of active mission work hundreds came to know Jesus. Thirty years after he passed away there were more than 20,000 believers in Jamaica, largely due to his faithfulness. What an incredible impact!
On this Sunday, I encourage you to celebrate the life of George Liele and other great African American heroes of the faith who have advanced God’s Kingdom! You can learn more through the International Mission Board at www.imb.org/heroesoffaith. May it be that we truly honor those who came before us and to love our neighbors in front of us! God bless you!
