This past Monday, we celebrated Labor Day, a day for all intents and purposes to rest from “labor.” But how many of you are still just plain tired?
We know the work of pastoral leadership is unique and difficult, especially for pastors who often feel like they are on call 24/7. Just consider the many hats ministers wear: marriage counselor, funeral director, preacher, facilities director, and volunteer coordinator, just to name a few. And don’t forget “technical and digital expert for online church,” which became so important during the pandemic.
So many jobs for one person. The constant availability, consistent organizational challenges, and the normal load of caring for one’s flock can leave a ministry leader exhausted – mentally, spiritually and emotionally.
How much rather we’d love for leaders to thrive in their calling and to find excitement in their work and labors.
Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.”
Maybe you are tired. Stressed. Fatigued.
Maybe you need tools to help you manage these unexpected and unwanted emotions.
If so, I want to urge you to participate in one of three upcoming Pastors Roundtables, hosted by counselors of Safe Place Ministries, to learn how to identify and unpack some of the unique stressors of the season we have been in. We will look at stress response reactions, compassion fatigue, and how to put life back into ourselves in the middle of so much demand.
Consider the following dates for these afternoon conversations (2-4 p.m.):
West Region – Tuesday, September 15 | Register
South Jersey Region – Thursday, October 1 | Register
Philadelphia Region – Thursday, October 8 | Register
My prayer is that you will walk away from these discussions feeling heard, refreshed and ready for your next season of ministry. Our staff has consistently prayed for you. May I pray for you now?
