In November the Foundry Church’s nonprofit outreach hub “Lifewerks” was named to the Feed America Healthy Pantry initiative. The Foundry has operated a food outreach ministry for a decade partnering with the World Hunger Fund, Whole Foods, and now Philabundance. The pantry was one of ten selected by Philabundance in the Philadelphia region. We were the only one named in Delaware county.
The initiative provides support to expand our outreach efforts through advanced training for volunteers, improved signage and displays, and will allow us to host foodie events to better serve those in need.
Our pantry has a strong focus on college students, families with children and the elderly.
What are the distinguishing marks of a healthy pantry?
Freedom to shop for groceries, elevated selection of healthy food choices, trained volunteers to assist with choices and training classes at the venue. The Foundry has become a leading pantry in our region to serve young people and kids.
On Friday, January 24, we held the first cohort training of its kind in Philadelphia with a nutritionist from Philabundance. We are excited to see what God will do through this effort.
