ROME, Pa., (BRN) In good humor, members of Windham Summit Bible Church jokingly describe their church as in the middle of a field and on top of a hill.
“That is very literally what we are,” said Senior Pastor Scott Ross. “We serve a rural community [and] we have no established community to minister to.”
For more than 160 years, Windham Summit Bible Church, located in Rome, Pennsylvania, has drawn from four or five small towns around it, creating its own unique community.
“We have young people, older people, retired – if they ever really retire – farmers, mothers, medical people, teachers, engineers and the list goes on,” said Ross. “God has blessed us with a great group of people.”
As part of their mission statement, Windham Summit Bible Church strives to be “a group of believers who are ‘becoming disciples by apprenticing Jesus.”
One way the church remains faithful to this mission is by offering ministry opportunities for everyone and for every season of life. This including ministries such as Mothers with Young Children, Men’s Breakfast, Growing Branches Small Groups (for men and women 18 and older) and Marriage Weekends for couples.
“When my wife and I came we were, and still are, passionate about working on marriages,” said Ross.
For four and a half years, Ross and his wife have been at Windham Summit Bible Church, ministering to married couples and all those who walk through the church’s doors.
“We have had three or four marriage weekends since we have been here and will soon be planning another.”
More recently, Ross has felt God burdening him and the church to minister to adults in the Rome community, something he is hopeful their new partnership with the Baptist Resource Network (BRN) will help them accomplish.
“The BRN has a heart for the community and for helping the local church impact their communities. That is where I am looking forward to partnering with the BRN,” said Ross.
“I am also excited about being connected with a resource for when, as the pastor, I am feeling lost or not sure where to go or who to turn to.”
