This season, Barry Whitworth, the executive director of the Baptist Resource Network, urges churches to love the neighbors in their own communities and in Kentucky, where many residents have been displaced because of a catastrophic tornado outbreak.
This includes collecting items, such as socks, gloves and hats for a community homeless shelter, or by collecting hygiene items for the Kentucky residents displaced by the recent catastrophic outbreak of tornados.
Through the PA/SJ Disaster Relief, churches are challenged to fill one five-gallon bucket (with a lid) filled with hygiene items, such as deodorant, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes, shampoo and conditioner, washcloths, feminine products, disposable razor blades, shaving cream, body wash, Chapstick, moisturizer, nail clippers, and wipes. We would like for your church to collect by Christmas Eve and deliver the buckets to your chosen Collection Site the following week. Because of the extreme need at this time, we want to try to get these items to Kentucky by the first of the year, which is when we will likely deploy our Disaster Relief Shower and Laundry units.
