Religious freedom is more than the freedom to worship in your house or your place of worship. allowing diverse religions to coexist and the opportunity to attend church. It’s the ability to act on the convictions of your faith–even in the public square. But today, people of faith are being censored and facing demands to violate their conscience, especially when their beliefs conflict with pro-LGBTQ or pro-abortion laws.
An example of this the Biden administration’s recent mandate requiring doctors to perform gender transition procedures on any patient, including a child, even if the procedure violates a doctor’s medical judgment or religious beliefs. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) reinterpreted non-discrimination on the basis of sex in the Affordable Care Act to include gender identity and thus require gender transition interventions, services, surgeries, and drugs on demand, regardless of a doctor’s medical judgement or religious beliefs.
Alliance Defending Freedom is representing the American College of Pediatricians, the Catholic Medical Association, and an OB-GYN who specializes in caring for adolescents in challenging the Biden administration mandate. ADF filed suit in federal court in late August against HHS.
The messaging from the Biden administration is clear: conscience rights come second to radical gender ideology. No American should be forced to violate their ethical and religious beliefs. We should all be able to agree that those in the medical profession should not be forced to participate in such controversial and morally questionable procedures that go against their deeply held beliefs.
